Casa Particulares in Viñales and elsewhere in Cuba
Since 1997 the Cuban government has allowed residents with a special permit to rent to tourists up to two rooms in their homes. These rooms are called “Casas Particulares”. That is the plural of the noun, singular form is a “Casa Particular”. You will know these homes by the (usually) blue, stylized “ARRENDADOR DIVISA” signs which will be posted near the main entrance of the home. The signs are not very large and often badly weather beaten so don’t expect anything prominent to jump out at you as you walk along the streets.
If you decide to stay in a Casa Particular, you can expect to pay about 20 CUCS (tourist pesos) a night. Meals will be extra; maybe 3 CUCS for breakfast and 8 CUCS for dinner. Prices vary, town by town and casa by casa. The better the casa, the more you will expect to pay. There are many dimensions to evaluate; size of room, size of bathroom, the view, private bathroom or not, air-conditioning or not, etc. Casa Vinales will offer you the better casas.
There are hundreds of ‘casas’ in Vinales which display the ‘ARRENDADOR’ sign. You might not want to stay there. The casas recommended here are among the ‘preferred’ casas. If you reach a casa and are not happy, then immediately get in touch with us so that the situation can be remedied quickly and satisfactorily.
